Official Tournament Rules

For the
Old Skool Basketball Circuit
, I would position the rules to reflect a professionallyrun event that is affordable, organized, and family-friendly. Below is a strong set oftournament rules that can be used for your website, Exposure registration, and coaches'packets.

Sportsmanship

  • Coaches are responsible for the conduct of their players, parents, and spectators.

  • Unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated.

  • Tournament officials reserve the right to remove any player, coach, or spectatordisplaying inappropriate conduct.

  • Fighting will result in immediate ejection and possible removal from the tournament.

Team Check-In

  1. Teams should arrive at least 30 minutes

  2. before their first scheduled game.

  3. Teams must check in before their first game.

  4. Proof of age may be requested at any time.

Rosters

  1. Players may only participate on one team in the same age division.

  2. A player must be listed on the official roster before participating.

  3. Rosters become official after the team's first game.

Game Format

6U, 8U, 10U & 12U

​

  • Two 12-minute running halves

  • 2-minute halftime


14U & High School

​

  • Two 14-minute running halves

  • 2-minute halftime


Clock stops only:

​

  • Timeouts

  • Injuries

  • Officials' discretion

  • Last 2 minutes of the second half if the score differential is 10 points or less.

Overtime

  • 2-minute overtime period.

  • Running clock.

  • Clock stops during the final minute.

  • If still tied, sudden death (first score wins).


Timeouts
Each team receives:

  • Three full timeouts per game.

  • One additional timeout in overtime.

Unused timeouts do not carry over.


Mercy Rule
Running clock remains in effect when:

  • A team leads by 20 points or more during the second half.

No pressing is permitted once a team leads by:

  • 20 points or more.

Warm-Up
Teams will receive approximately:

  • 3 minutes before each game when schedule permits.

Basketball Size

Fouls

  • Bonus on the 7th team foul.

  • Double bonus on the 10th team foul.

​

Players foul out after:

  • Five personal fouls.

​

Free Throws
Lane violations follow NFHS rules.

 

Pressing
6U
No full-court pressing.
8U
Pressing only during the final two minutes of the second half if within 10 points.
10U and Older
Full-court pressing permitted except during mercy-rule situations.

​

Uniforms

  • Home team wears light uniforms.

  • Away team wears dark uniforms.

  • Teams with conflicting colors may be required to wear pinnies.

Bench Personnel
Only:

  • Head Coach

  • Assistant Coach

  • Scorekeeper (optional)

are permitted on the bench.


Protest Rule
Judgment calls by officials cannot be protested.


Rule interpretation protests must be made:

  • Before play resumes.

  • Tournament Director's decision is final.

Forfeit Policy
Game time is forfeit time.
A team unable to field:

  • Five players

within 5 minutes of scheduled game time may forfeit.


Awards
Championship teams receive:

  • Championship Rings (or trophies/medals depending on event)

Runner-up awards may be presented in selected divisions.


State & National Qualification
Eligible events serve as qualifiers for:

  • Old Skool State Championship

  • Old Skool National Championship

Qualification criteria will be announced before each event.

 

Tournament Director

  • The Tournament Director reserves the right to:

  • Modify schedules

  • Change game times

  • Move courts

  • Adjust divisions when necessary

  • Make final rulings on all tournament matters


Zero Tolerance Policy
The Old Skool Basketball Circuit is committed to providing a safe, competitive, andenjoyable environment for all participants.


The following will result in immediate removal from the facility:

  • Fighting

  • Threatening officials

  • Abusive language toward officials

  • Abuse toward players

  • Abuse toward spectators

  • Entering the court during an altercation

  • Repeated unsportsmanlike conduct

Admission
Admission fees (if applicable) are non-refundable.
Tournament entry fees are refundable only according to the published refund policy.


Weather Policy
In the event of severe weather or circumstances beyond the Tournament Director's control,every effort will be made to complete the event. If games cannot be completed, refunds orcredits will be issued at the Tournament Director's discretion.
